# Lesson Plan: Jesus Calming the Storm

## Topic: Jesus Calming the Storm
### Objective:
- To introduce the story of Jesus calming the storm.
- To teach children about Jesus' power and the importance of faith.
- To encourage students to trust in Jesus during challenging times.
### Materials Needed:
- Children’s Bible or illustrated storybook
- Poster/flashcards with key images (boat, storm, calm sea, Jesus, disciples)
- Simple craft materials (paper plates, crayons, markers, glue, cotton balls)
- Optional: Toy boat and a blue cloth to represent the sea
### Lesson Outline:
#### 1. Welcome and Introduction (5 minutes)
- Begin with a short prayer.
- Sing a welcoming song to create a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
- Briefly explain the lesson's topic: "Today, we will learn about a time when Jesus did something amazing during a big storm!"
#### 2. Story Time (10 minutes)
- Gather the children to sit in a circle.
- Show them the children’s Bible or illustrated storybook.
- Narrate the story of Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41):
- Jesus and His disciples were in a boat.
- A strong wind and waves started to rock the boat.
- The disciples were very afraid.
- Jesus was asleep during the storm.
- The disciples woke Jesus up and asked for His help.
- Jesus stood up and commanded the storm to stop.
- The storm calmed down immediately.
- The disciples were amazed and asked, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!"
#### 3. Discussion and Key Points (5 minutes)
- Ask the children simple questions about the story:
- "What happened to the boat Jesus and the disciples were in?"
- "How did the disciples feel during the storm?"
- "What did Jesus do to the storm?"
- "Who made the storm stop?"
- Emphasize:
- Jesus has power over everything, even storms.
- We can trust Jesus during scary or difficult times.
- Having faith in Jesus can bring us peace and calm.
#### 4. Activity: Stormy Sea Craft (10 minutes)
- Hand out paper plates and crayons/markers to each child.
- Instruct them to draw a stormy sea on one half of the plate and a calm sea on the other half.
- Provide cotton balls to create “clouds” or “waves”.
- Allow the children to share their artwork and describe the stormy and calm sides.
#### 5. Conclusion and Prayer (5 minutes)
- Recap the story and the lesson’s main points.
- Encourage the children to remember that Jesus can help them no matter what.
- End with a closing prayer, thanking Jesus for his protection and power.
### Optional Extended Activities:
- **Role Play:** Arrange a simple role play where some children act as Jesus and the disciples on a “boat” (using chairs or a large cardboard box) and re-enact the story.
- **Song:** Teach a song related to the story, such as "With Jesus in the Boat" or any suitable children’s hymn.
